Expires On:

Description
This course equips nurse practitioners with the knowledge and skills to address tobacco use disorder as a chronic, relapsing condition. Participants will explore the neurobiology of nicotine addiction, disparities in tobacco use across populations, and the latest evidence-based practices for screening, counseling, and pharmacotherapy. Emphasis is placed on the 5 A’s model (Ask, Advise, Assess, Assist, Arrange), motivational interviewing, empathic communication, and treatment guidelines—including combination therapy with varenicline and nicotine replacement. The course also addresses stigma, adolescent use, and emerging concerns such as e-cigarettes and vaping-related harm. Practical billing strategies and case studies round out this comprehensive clinical approach to supporting patients through tobacco cessation.
Criteria
This activity has two video modules. Each module requires fully viewing the video and completion of a self-knowledge assessment. After viewing both videos, a summative assessment must be passed (70%+) and an evaluation submitted.
